Moving with a cat, advice please!

So, I have a six year old cat. He is mainly an outdoor cat, he loves catching lizards, climbing trees, etc. My family is thinking about moving... to another country. There would be a totally new environment, and I don't know how my cat will enjoy it. I'm also worried that if we ever let him go outside that he will
try to find the old home, then get lost. If we do move, do I never let him go outside? The new home would be quite larger, as we are moving in with relatives. So maybe being an indoor cat would be alright? For the the future, how should I transition him into a new home? And possibly new way of life?

My daughter moved overseas with an adult cat who had always been indoor/outdoor. Everything went fine. Indoors for a week or two, then limited outdoors, but great food and not too much of it, so there was interest in coming back in for more. Coming in was rewarded with a little treat.
