Cat behavior

My cat just over the weekend began to hiss and "growl". My cat had jumped onto the kitchen counter and jumped off when he realized I was walking into the kitchen. Apparently he had been drinking water out of a bowl (that my boyfriend figured out). My boyfriend then tried to reach for him when a board game that was on the floor accidently leaned/fell over to my cat and now he hisses and growls at my boyfriend. How do I retrain my cat to be on good terms with him again. It's the first time I have ever seen my cat like this. Don't know what to do.

It sounds like your cats afraid of your boyfriend now. Allow him to show the cat he's a friend. Let him give your kitty treats and affection. Show your cat that your boyfriend means no harm and your cat should soon trust him again. Good luck!

It takes time for a cat to trust someone once they have been frightened by that person, in this case the noise was associated to your B/F.

...you can always try this: (just kidding)

give it time and take it slow. Are you sure this is the only thing that spooked your kitty?
