New kitten and existing cats not getting along

We picked up a 10 week old stray female kitten 5 days ago. We kept her in a separate room from our 2 female's and 1 male cat for three days so that the other cats could get used to her scent from under the door. We have been trying to introduce her to the other cats, but when she gets within a few feet of them, they have a hissy fit and run away. The other cats snub us if the kitten is out of her room. Will this behavior eventually dissipate?

We have found a good home for her, but we have fallen in love with her and don't want to give her up. Any advice is greatly appreciated.

This should help. One thing that should help a bit right away is to rub the other cats with a towel, and then rub the kitten with that towel. That will put a familiar scent on the kitten. Let us know how it works out, ok?

Don't get rid of the kitten if you love it!! My cats all went through this when I brought the next one in--just give it time. They may never be best friends, but they will tolerate each other. I have also heard that they may hiss and stuff, but "really" they enjoy having the company when you are gone. Just make sure that you don't give the new kitty all the love--make alone time for each of them so they won't be jealous.

Thanks for the suggestions.

Thanks for the suggestions. I'll try the towel trick tonight and let you all know how it works out.

Kitten update

Tirzah (our new kitten) is getting along much better with Flower, Cinamon, and Solomon these days. Solomon still hisses at her, but she's not intimidated by it. In fact, she likes to sneek up on Solomon and pounce on him just because he is being such a brat to her. I'm sure Solomon will adapt eventually. At least he is sleeping with us at night again.

Let me tell you something that will probably make you feel alot better. After 2 out of 3 of my cats died, my last cat seemed a little lonely. So I thought I'd get her a little kitten friend and she'd be happy - WRONG! Sadie attacked the new kitten, wouldn't stay in the house for 5 minutes, attacked us, and tore up the furniture! Well, this little kitten, Misty, was so sweet we just couldn't get rid of her so we thought "Fine! If Sadie's gonna be like that, she can just become an out door cat like she wants."
After about a month, Sadie started coming around more because we kept the kitten strictly in one room. After introducing them like everyone told me over and over and over and over.....it finally paid off. Misty and Sadie can now be in the same room together, as long as Misty doesn't get too close to Sadie. Although, today they touched noses twice, and Sadie let Misty sit about a foot away from her was bathing herself! Amazing progress from when we first got Misty! Sadie even lets us get around her more, and she's never been real friendly ever since she was a kitten herself.
So just hang in there, and I promise they'll learn to co-exsist - at least!
