pooping outside litter box

My 4 year old male cat has recently been having bm outside his litter box.
He urinates there ok, but he has chosen to poop in a variety of places..
on boxes, bags, carpet, clothing; both at floor level and higher. We
had him tested for parasites- it was negative. Sometimes there is
blood in the stool also. Can anyone advise? He acts ok-eats ok, etc.

Your cat may want another box, one for pee and one for poo. If there is blood, that usually indicates worms or coccidia I believe.

Are you also cleaning this area with enzyme cleaners? I would clean the area 3 or 4 times over a period of 2 days to rid of the smell.

One time Sugar pooped outside on my parents rug b/c the litterbox was too dirty. I cleaned up the poop and cleaned with Nature's Miracle like 2 times. The next day I went down to the rug and I almost passed out! You have to clean the area really good, the smell is still there sometimes. If your cat smells it, they may think it is ok to go there. Good luck

That's hilarious -- my cats do the same thing!

I had this experience also. I have two female cats and have two litter trays. They pee in one and poo in the other. But one time as I was cleaning out the litter box, the youngest one ashley decided to Pee in the corner where the box would be lmao. I'd get another litter tray.. and disinfect the other areas where he would likely to do the deed. hope that helps.. even if i am no expert ... "yet"
