Well, Scully has been sceduled for her spay

Let the worrying begin!

Of course, I'm already nervous, even though it's not until next Thursday . Having decided to forgoe the ultrasound for now (due to finances), I'm extra paranoid. The vet assures me it's unlikely her murmur will cause any problems, but you never know. She's my baby, she found me and chose me, so I want to do what's best for her.

*nervously counting down the days...*

Ooh, spacemonkey, I knew I was going to tell you something!

We repaired a fractured leg and speyed a 1 year old cat with a grade 4 heart murmur yesterday, and she was absolutely fine, her aneasthetic induction and duration was normal, she recovered quickly and normally for a cat her age, and she went home that evening full of beans. Her anaesthetic was much longer than Scully's will be, so I hope that might reassure you a bit!

Good Luck, we'll be thinking of Scully next Thursday!

Don't worry about the murmur. When I took my 9 year old to the vet, the vet said he had a 3 out of 6(six being the worst) heart murmur. I was really worried because he need a dental done, but she said she has done TONS of spays with cats that had murmurs, and they were all fine.

I also asked Dr. Jean and she said a lot of the time, murmurs only show up when the cat is under a lot of stress, which may be what Scully has(got stressed when she went to the vet). Turns out, my cat had that. Whenever he goes to the vet, the murmur starts up, but once he is calm(after a few hours though ), it goes away.

I must say to you though, you should probably use a combination of gas & injectable for Scully's spay. See, my vet said that if we were only to use the gas, the murmur would act up and/or get worse. The reason being that when the mask is put over their face, they know that, and they get really stressed out...making the murmur start up. So with my cat, the vet used a tiny bit of injectable(just to calm him down), then she put the mask over and used gas.

Take Care

I know there have been a few tragic spay stories in the boards lately.

I wanted to tell that Mi' Mi' came home yesterday from her spay and she is really really doing well!

Scully is gonna do great too!
