Moving with cats.......

hey people,
have a question, i have two cats and had them for 5 years , and i sold my house and have to bring them with me to the new land. Well i heard storys about cats trying to find there way back home when displaced. How do i keep my cats from leaving. there is no building yet but iam working on that..iam staying next to the land where iam going to be building but cant keep the cats inside...iam really afraid that if i put them down they will haul butt...
anyone have any good ideas on what i should do...?

So where are the cats and you staying in the meantime?

When moving, the cat really need to be confined to your new home for a few weeks before being let out, otherwise the chances are they'll disappear.

If there really is nowhere to keep the cats, would it be possible to put them in a cattery or even find them a foster home until your new home is ready?

moving...

iam still at my old house, will be moving feb 7,,the cats roam freely around my land now and when it gets cold i let them stay in the garage where i have a blanket with an electric heating pad under it. (i guess there a little spoiled). I really cant keep them inside where iam moving and i though of boarding them but they go crazy when i put them in a cage ,,and i dont know anyone who would take them for a couple of months. I guess i could try going to a cattary and talking to the people there. Iam building a shop before i build the house so i will have someplace to keep them after that. I guess the answer is if i cant put them on the land safely, i need to put them else where until i have a place for them. this is the only thing that bothers me about moving,,to place the two dogs again(not as big of deal) and hope my little buddies dont wander away... thanks

yes, I think that's best. even though you'll be separated for a while, in the long run it's better for both you and your cats.

good luck on you new place!
