my cat is mad at me

I have a 3 year old Tonkinese. The cat grew up with my golden retriever but she died 11 months ago. The two of them played a little, but mostly they kept to themselves. When my dog died, the cat was definitely depressed for a while. Then he started being more affectionate to us; making up for the loss of our dog. The cat was our only "child" until last month when we got a 12 week old puppy. The puppy takes a lot of time and the cat is jealous and swipes and bites me a lot now. ( he always did this to me, but now even more ) When I try to give the cat some attention, he rejects me. How can I make this better? The puppy loves to chase the cat and bites him; the cat swipes at the puppy and they chase each other. The puppy will not be more than 12 lbs. fully grown so I think eventually they will be friends. But will the cat ever love me again?

This is part of the process. I think there is a good way to intro cats and dogs, but I don't know for sure. But there will be a period where you are not accepted. I went through this with Ketesh when we brought the other 2 in. Given time, things will get better or even return to normal. But keep in mind, there will be some sort of personality change. There always is when you introduce someone new.

And just continue giving kitty as much attention as you have time for.
