Addison is different

I just want to start by saying I've been holding off on posting this because I don't want to seem like I am in any way giving anyone a reason to not spay/neuter their cats. I think it's irresponsible not to spay or neuter no matter what.

However, Addison has been really nasty to me ever since her spay. She's fine with the rest of the family, but she is constantly biting me and clawing me. She has even starting attacking me when I go near her food bowls and is VERY possessive of her food. Franny can't even eat now without Addison fighting, growling and biting at her. I am usually just minding my own business and she'll come up and attack my hands.

I have taken her to the vet and they say she's fine and her surgery has healed very well. She does NOT do this to anyone else in the house, so it must be behavioral.

Do you think she knows that I DID it to her and she's mad? I dropped her off and picked her up. I set up her little camp in my bedroom. I put that e-collar on her and anything else I can think of that she may have associated with the whole process.

I thinks she's mad at me.

hmmmm...it's hard to believe Addison would be able to associate the surgery with you. the e-collar maybe. maybe she's just still stressed from it and takes it out on the person she's closest to (kind of like people do ). it hasn't been that long. patience, affection, and good treatment will restore her. I don't believe that old wive's tale about cats carrying grudges forever.

Thanks, Tim. I'll give it more time. And, of course, right after I posted this she walked over made her normal chirping noise and climbed onto my lap!

I swear though, she's been mean to me for over 2 weeks.

Um, they didn't use ketamine did they? When I was researching stuff for spays, an old poster on here had the same problem. Dr. Jean said that ketamine can sometimes be to blame; it's pretty rare, but it can cause personality changes

You know what, I love this vet so much and I decided pretty last minute to switch from the low cost spay clinic to go to my regular vet since she was having all those issues, that i honestly did ask about ketamine.

I'm going to look it up right now and find out what the effects are.

Maybe if you give her a few play sessions with a toy like da bird or a 'fishing pole' type toy she'll warm back up to you. It's just a thought, it cheers my cats up when something stressful happens.

That's a good idea, Rob.
I'll try that too.
