My cat hides all the time

We adopted a wonderful calico girl from the shelter last week from the shelter. She is 6 years old and just LOVES to be petted. Anyway my question is how do I help her adjust to the family. We have a 7, 5 and 3 year old. During the day she hides under my bed, never comes out to eat or use her box until the kids go to bed. Once the kids are in bed she comes out and follows me and my husband around the house purring her head off. She also sleeps on our bed with us and her favorite spot is sleeping right between my legs. Anyway, I know its still really early but any suggestions on how to help her adjust? Thanks

yes, it's much too early. all that activity with the kids is too much for her yet. just give her a chance to hide from them for a while. if you want to get her out of the bedroom, you have to give her a comfortable hidey place in another room. something like a cat-cave or a cat-condo where she can feel secure.
