kitten help

i have a 9 mounth old kitten and he just doesn't listen to my husband and I. He jumps on everything except his perchs and posts and nocks down only the things that will break. I have tried everything that i know of like, spraying him with water, water and lemon juice, vinigar and water, making loud noises like clapping, stomping my feet, throw things near him and nothing has seemed to work. he just goes and does it again 5 mins later. i need new ideas please thanks

it's unfortunate all these attention-diverting devices are so prominant in cat behavior articles, because they only work for timid cats. furthermore, what usually happens is that the cat associates the unpleasant experience with the device or the owner, not with the behavior. what you need to do is get a copy of the book think like a cat - How to Raise a Well-Adjusted Cat - NOT a Sour Puss by Pam Johnson-Bennett. you need to learn to understand why your cat is doing these things and what it will take to get him to stop. there are several issues here, I can't address them all adequately in this space. please do your homework. good luck to you!!

What did you expect when you got a cat?

Sorry to be so blunt....but that is all typical cat / kitten behavior.
You need to kitten proof your house the same you
would do if you had a toddler.
Some cats will always be inquisitive in nature...
no matter how old they get.
I would like to know who ever told you to use lemon juice and vinegar?

Cats dont "listen" the way that dogs do....
they dont learn they way that dogs do.

Have you used any catnip to attract the cat towards his perch?

Many animal behaviourist recommed this. I am not saying whether it is right or wrong or trying to start a debate but this is recommned by many vets and trainers too. I hear it all the time from people.
