meows for food

Is there any way to train a cat not to meow for food? Our male cat is like an alarm clock. He know exactly when it is time to eat. If we don't get there fast enough for him he will continue to meow until we feed him. My husband is trying to train him not to do this. He will withhold his food until Zack calms down and then will give it to him. This has been going on for 3 months now. I don't feel like we will ever win this battle.

No, you'd best stick to battles you can win.

You can gradually move the feeding time to one more suitable to listening to your alarm clock, if that helps. Otherwise, you might know that your cat will probably mellow out as he grows older.

You should hear my two boy cats at feeding time. If somebody walked by and I had the window open, they'd probably think some evil feline torture maniac lived here.

if i go into the kitchen when Squee is hungry, he meows like he hasn't eaten in a week. he sounds utterly pathetic. and i just talk back while i'm getting his food and say, in a whiny, high-pitched voice "Oh really? Is that so Squee? you're so abused!" etc.
