best way to euthanize my cat

my cat has been diagnosed terminally ill. she has polycystic kidney disease AND some other rare disease that basically encapsulates the kidney and fills with fluid (a combination he has never even read about before). i have been told by a specialist vet that she probably wont survive an operation andd if she did, the poylcystic disease will kill her shortly after. basically there is nothing that can be done to save her except a miracle. we cant even give her pain killers cause that will hasten her kidney failure.

all this is so hard to accept...she is 4 and still appears healthy. we only took her in because she looked a bit bloated...constipation i thought. we went in for laxatives and came out with a death sentence.

anyhow, shes still ok for now, and i will just have to watch her closely and decide on when i think she is starting to suffer, and then take it from there. so the one thing i want to know is what is the best way to put her to sleep. i have heard there are several different drugs that are used...which is the best? as in the one that will make her sleep ONLY and will not begin to shut her down while she is awake. so basically she feels a jab, feels sleep and calm, then sleeps, then is subjected to death. no worries, at home.

what do i ask for/demand...whats best for her?

Sorry to hear about your cat.

There are some recommendations toward the end of this article (see "Humane Euthanasia Protocol"):

Re: best way to euthanize my cat

When I put my Dude to sleep, it was very peaceful. I was anxious, I'd never put a pet to sleep.
I brought him to the vet, we were alone in the exam room. I read something out of a book to him. The vet tech took him in another room. They gave him general anesthesia, like he was going for surgery.
They brought him back to the exam room, wrapped in a blanket. The vet administered the drug. Dude didn't move, at all. His heart stopped and he passed into the next life. I kissed his head, and said, "Goodbye my love." We had some more moments alone, then the vet tech took his body away, gently cradled in her arms.

It was hard, I spent the weekend in tears. A week later, I picked up his ashes, placed them in a handsome oak urn, and he rests at home on the fireplace mantle.

I don't have any advice, just condolences. I'm so sorry about your kitty.

I would have an IV catheter placed, then have the vet administer Propofol to effect. Its an anesthetic that works rapidly and puts the pet to sleep so they can't feel anything. Then an injection of Euthosol will stop his heart right away and he won't feel a thing.

I'm so sorry about your kitty. Hugs to you.
