Diareaha what should I do???

BOth my cats 6 & 7 months old have very loose stool. I feed them 1/4 can each of wellness wet food in the morning and again at night. (1 5oz can between both a day) I also leave dry wellness all day & night for them to graze at. My 7 month old girl had really bad diareaha not to long ago and i had to take her to the vet, they treated her and she got better, but now they both have it again, Its not that watery but it is really mushie. yucky

Does anybody have suggestion?? I think im giving them the best food. Is there anything else i can do, in which i wont have to take them to the vet for now??? Cant keep spending the money.

Thanks in advance for your help

Re: Diareaha what should I do???

Often (even usually) the cause of unexplained diarrhea in kittens and young cats are giardia and/or coccidia. They are both very difficult to find on a fecal so it can take several tries to confirm. When my vet suspects them he'll just go ahead and treat for one (the more common one, but I don't remember which that is). If that doesn't do it, he treats for the other. Nine times out of ten, that does the trick.
Unless you've recently changed the food and did it too fast, I think it's unlikely that that's the culprit. Especially since they both have diarrhea. If, however, you've completely ruled out parasites and they still have it, just try another good food like Innova or Prairie. But make the switch very slowly. Switching a diet too fast, especially in kittens, can cause upset tummies.
Good luck!

Re: Diareaha what should I do???

One of my fosters is being treated for coccidia!she had horrible loose bowels and it smelled putrid! Also he said I could give them a teaspoon of pumpkin a couple times a day (not pumpkin pie mix, plain pumpkin puree) it has toins of fiber so it should firm the poo up some) also get some bordeux butt paste (diaper rash ointment) and apply to the bottom if it gets raw!!I would make a vet apt. to make sure it is not a parasite!!Good luck!
