my cat's eye

this morning i suspected that my cat's left eye wasn't blinking normally. when i look at his eyes together, the left one seems to be blinking a little slower. His left eyelids seem to close with some difficulty each time he blinks. There's no discharge or redness. He just got neutered yesterday and he was quite active the whole night. I'm just worried that he might have ran into a wall or something and hurt his eye during the night. Does anyone have any ideas on this? Has this happened to your cats before? Should i pay a visit to the vet??

Re: my cat's eye

If your kitty is squinting or pawing at his eye/face, I'd say definite trip to the vet. I don't mess around with eye problems. But...if your kitty is only blinking slowly, has no discharge and both pupils are dilated appropriately for the light source, I'd say he is probably fine.

Call your vet and ask if the anesthesia they used for the neuter could affect how his eyes blink.

Re: my cat's eye

The one time Rookie had a slow blink like you're describing, it was after she had been anesthetized at the vet. They put a gel in their eyes while anesthetized so their eyes won't dry up, and apparently the blinking later has to do with the little bit of gel left in their eyes.

The vet gave us eye drops for it, which of course we weren't successful getting in her eyes, but the slow blinking did go away by itself within a day or so.
