How to get food to drop in gravity feeder?

We have two gravity feeders that I bought when I was fed up with the automatic timer ones we used because half the time they didn't go off or I set them for morning when it should be evening so when I was away for a few days I always wondered if the cats were getting food.

We have 6 cats so we just use the gravity feeders on a daily basis so we don't have to fill up the bowls so much. I like that they hold so much food (6 lbs) but when the dish part empties, the food just kind of gets stuck and doesn't automatically move down. We have to shake the feeder to get the bowl to fill up, which although annoying, it isn't a big deal when someone is there during the day. However, we are leaving for 3 days next weekend and I'm afraid the cats are going to be without food. I mean with 6 cats they can clean out one of those bowls in a day. If only they knew to hop on top of it to get the food to move down, we'd be in business!

I'm just wondering if others have had this issue and if there's any kind of fix for it?
