Advantage II?

So I just switched to Advantage II from Frontline Plus because it seems to no longer be working. I got Advantage II for small cats (5-9lbs) though my cat is just a hair over 9.... I didn't want to risk it in case it might be too strong for her size.

I just put it on her and she HAULED BUTT and hid, something she'd never done with Frontline apart from a few hops away and sitting under the table. My concern already is it might be burning her or tingling or... maybe making her uncomfortable, I don't know.

Anybody use Advantage II and have this happen? I'm a worrywart. :s

We use Advantage Multi for Chino and Shadow and I haven't noticed any problems or side effects. I think if it was burning or tingling they would be scratching at the area and trying to get at it, which I haven't seen either of them do.

She's not scratching or trying to get at it, she just ran away like I slapped her or something. I've also been inspecting the area and it's not red or anything. She's been hiding a bit but she's coming around now I think. I was just surprised by her reaction. Thanks for the reply. :]

I use Revolution and my cat always turns her head around and goes "WAAOW?" at me when I apply it XD Not in pain or anything, but more like a "What the heck?!" reaction.

I think it might be a bit like the sensation we humans feel when rubbing alcohol is applied to our skin. Not painful, just cold and weird.

In fact, I just hauled out the insert that comes with the box of Revo and it states "Revolution contains isopropyl alcohol."

I don't know if Advantage contains isopropyl alcohol, but I'm guessing it might, and that's what your girl was reacting to.

As jking said, I imagine if your cat isn't scratching at the area or trying to turn her head around and lick at it, it's not really painful or anything, just momentarily a weird sensation that surprised her.

Yes, it turned out to be fine. She hid for a few hours after I put it on her, though she always came out to me when I called her... I dunno, it was just strange. When I played with her for a while she seemed to come out of it and she went to sleep in her spot by my feet under the desk. :]

I already don't notice her scratching. I've checked her fur for fleas and I haven't seen any... not even dead ones. On top of that, the stuff is already dry. Frontline takes DAYS to go away before I can put her collar back on, but when I inspected her neck fur this morning it's already dry and fluffy again.

I'll be sticking with Advantage now. :] Thanks guys! I worry over nothing constantly.

I think they all feel the normal spread of the incecticide especially after like 2-3 hours. My kitten starts rolling around on the floor, Smokey used to be quite irritated and excessively cleaned himself after the first couple hours. After 5 hours everything back to normal
