New kid likes her wet food's 'juice'

New kitty is doing great, apart from awful detox poops (I switched her cold-turkey from science diet to orijen). She mostly eats dry, but I've offered tiki cat and she likes to drink the juice from the can. She'll eat a little of the actual meat (chicken) but seriously likes the juice. When she finishes it I just add more water and she keeps drinking.

Question is, does this work for her water intake? I plan on trying different types of wet food to see if she actually wants to eat any of it, but I wouldn't mind making "soups" for her if she doesn't.

Yup it does work for her water intake It's good she's taking to the food, slowly slowly I think she'll realize the meaty bits are good too. With other less soupy wet food varieties, I usually add a bit of warm (or hot if from the fridge) water, anyway, to ease the cold off. It's great though that she's slurping the 'juice', really good, because cats generally aren't that big water drinkers and can get dehydrated.

Yes. I always serve catfood soup or catfood stew. Smokes cleans his plate. It took a bit of time for him to realize he wasn't getting what he got before, but hunger is a great seasoning... the best one.

My senior kitty was that way her entire life - loved the juice, but was never very big on the meat itself.

Eventually, I got her switched onto pate (no watering-down required, thank goodness), but she still prefers just the sauce from canned tuna/canned foods of a similar texture.

I think it's a great big step forward! Maybe you can try offering her wet food of other textures, such as pate, or shredded w/ gravy. If your kitty is anything like mine, she may enjoy plain pate (or watered down, as mentioned above).

And don't give up if it takes awhile to find a food that she'll eat. I went through 2 dozen brands before I found a high-quality food that my picky girl would eat.
