Hoping for the best

My 11-year-old gray tabby Tara had to have emergency surgery on Saturday; they removed a bleeding tumor that was attached to her spleen (the spleen was also removed). The vet (who is absolutely wonderful!) has called us every day to see how she's doing. She seems all right, though a bit sedate. She is eating and using the litter box. She has another appointment today; I'm nervous and hoping she doesn't have cancer. It has already been determined that her lymph nodes are not infected. Tara is the most easygoing cat I've ever known; she's a little shy but doesn't demand much (except meals). She helped me cope with the loss of a precious cat, 21-year-old Sandy, last year. I hope Tara will be with us for longer. I have lost cats before so I know I can survive but it still hurts to lose one.

Hope for the best for Tara and you.....it's always such an anxious time when our kitties get sick. Her condition sounds promising and hopefully Tara will have many more good years.

How is Tara doing? I'm hoping for an update with positive news. It's a good sign that they didn't find anything in her lymph nodes, as that's generally the first place that a cancer will spread to. Fingers crossed for you both!

I received news of the biopsy. It is inconclusive. The vet said she may live for more months, maybe even years. I guess I should be upset but honestly I'm just relieved that I don't have to make a decision regarding euthanasia.

yes, at least there's no immediate danger it sounds like. Wishing for the best of health for your Tara!

I guess inconclusive is better than yes, it's cancer. Did the vet say there's anything specific you should watch for?

PS - I'm sorry for the loss of your kitty Sandy. 21! I'll be wishing for Tara to have that long a life too!

Tara seems fine. As long as she isn't in pain, is eating and drinking, and using the litterbox, I don't think there's any reason to fret. She even was playing in the cat tunnel recently.
