preventing crystals

Saw this wonderful forum and wanted too join

I have a black cat pretty sure a bomba thats 10 years old that was hurt when we found him in our yard when he was 2 too 3 weeks old his face was really cut up and smash on one side. but was acting fine and took him too the vet and they said the best option is put him to sleep.... even tho he was active.. So we refuse too do that and ask for meds too take home and take care of him our self. Welp he is now 10 years old and huge

Tho the pass 4 days he been in trouble again:/ We noticed he was having alot of troule peeing and staying in the box up too 15min each time and ony letting drips out and kept going in tons of times a day.. and also going around going up against stuff.

So on thanks giving we had too take him too the vet and they said he has infection down were he pees and has some crystals and had a good bit of blood but said its from just keep on trying too pee but not fully block and they said he will be ok but they gave him a 90$ shot that lasts 7 days and some other stuff and also sent us home with 3 pain pills about 450% total and told us dont worry he will start peeing better. lets keep him living longer cause they remember and has his record from back in 2008 and they said they thought he died long time ago and was surprised!

day after we saw some difference but still was having a good bit of trouble and now almost 5 days later hes pretty much almost 100% better and going and making a decent size spot and not staying in the box long and also not going in it like crazy and acting him self So it seems what they did saved his life!

I have some questions tho. how can i prevent this from happening again? right now hes on urninary food dry food cause the vet recommend too fully stay on that. he was on that with my other cats we have a good bit.. But a year ago we went back too normal dry food which might've caused this.... Our cats dont like wet food so they always been on dry food their life.

I just dont want this happening again too him:/ My cousin recommend getting this product called vet Kidney/Bladder 2 oz homeopathic Spray and said it saved her cats when they had trouble going and had blood.

Also here's a pic of him hes everything too me

I was at the vet yesterday and they told me to prevent crystals that the cat needs alot of water to flush them out. If he only eats dry food then he has to be drinking lots of water from his bowl. Thats about all they said about it.
I have to give my cat lactulose 3 times a day with a syringe. You can fill a syringe with water and squirt it in his mouth if you dont think he gets enough water. If he eats only 1 flavor of dryfood you can also put the food in a container with some water. The food will soak up the water and he may eat it that way.
Mine used to eat only dry food too then he had a blockage which cost us 300. Since then he only gets wet food and we add in a little extra water too.
