Growing catnip

This spring I grew a small patch of catnip in my garden for the first time. It is coming up very well and Velvet has been enjoying a nibble here and there. My question is does anyone give their cats fresh catnip on a regular basis? Is there any health benefits or problems that can arise from frequent doses of catnip?

I don't know if there are any health benefits. Well, maybe the exercise they get from playing w/ the catnip maybe a health benefit.

We do grow it. I have several plants inside and then my mom has huge plants outside in her garden. My cats ave a never ending supply of fresh and dried catnip.

i grow catnip, too... it is such a rip off to buy that stuff. i dont know the specific health benefits to cats, but i do know that catnip is used in human herbal medicine to treat anxiety, insomnia and migranes and can be taken for mild stomach troubles.

I grow cat nip and cat mint (it's a prettier plant and some of my cats have purrfured it). I've never heard of any ill effects and as far as benefits...well...just watch them!
