Worried about Vomiting

I went out of town last week, and my boyfriend was taking care of the cats. He decided to clean the house and put a nice phyllodendrum on the table (I keep the plants up and out of the way for a reason, but I guess he didn't know that). My boyfriend called me a few times last week and said that all three cats threw up -- I thought maybe they missed their mom, but when I came home, I saw the plant on the table and asked him when he moved it (of course, it coincided with the vomiting). So, I put it back up and everything seemed to be fine. However, Nico would still throw up occasionally, and this morning he has puked three times. I'm getting worried about him although he is acting normally. Could the plant still be in his system, causing him to vomit or do you think it is something else?

Philodendron is a toxic plant, so PLEASE call your vet for advice.

The type of illness philodendron causes:

Oral and esophageal irritation: ulcers, swelling, and irritation in mouth and throat; excessive salivation. Swelling in throat may sometimes interfere with breathing.

Throat irritation can cause vomiting and other symptoms. My vet has also warned me about the possibility of leaves and other parts of plants causing intestinal obstruction. (For this reason even non-toxic plants can be dangerous for cats.)

Again, please call your vet for advice.

Thank you for the link -- he threw up again about an hour ago, so I am taking him to the vet at 2 p.m. I knew that most plants are harmful, which is why I keep them out of reach on plant stands and bookshelves, but the boyfriend didn't know. He feels really bad -- I hope Nico is okay.

Well, he didn't have anything really wrong with him -- no stomach obstructions/masses, no fever, he's not lethargic, so the vet thought that if he was getting sick from the plant it was just from an upset tummy. Nico got two shots to settle his stomach and a codeine pill (that was fun to give him...). They will do x-rays if he doesn't improve -- so my little guy is fine, thank goodness.

I do hope that a little help from the vet was all he needed and you won't have to take him back.
Thanks for the update!
