adopting <1 yr old kitty with no shots safe for other cat

i LOVE my 3 kittens! they are all about 8 months old and have a clean bill of health. my boyfriend and i love them to death and i think they are the happiest cats in the world... so why not share the love right?? i think i want to take in the kitten of a friend of mine, this cat is under 1 yrs old also and an indoor cat, BUT he has no shots and is not spayed/neutered! i have never seen this cat, i am scared because i know i will fall in love if i do, but i am also scared if i take this cat in what if he has feline HIV or because he has never gotten any shots what if he has a disease and my other cats get sick?? i would love to welcome another cat into our happy home and make sure he lives a healthy life but are my other kittens at risk??

See if you can bring kitty to the vet before you bring him/her home. If that is not possible bring the new kitty home and keep it confined to one room with it's own food dishes and litter pan (you would want to do this anyways to for the introduction period) until you can bring kitty to the vet for a check up. Then once the kitty is out of that room dont' let the other cats in for a few days. Do a good vacuuming and wipe everything down that can be. Maybe there is a disinfectant that can be sprayed around the room. Hope this helps.

Good luck! Keep us updated.

I second that. Try your best to see if you can get him to the vet first though.
