Kitten Weight

Hi all! Latte (a traditional siamese --i.e. not long and batfaced)...will be 10 months tomorrow. She currently weighs about 10 pounds. People seem to think she is fat but I think she looks fine. I have been letting her free feed dry and I give her half a small can of wet (nutro) a day, which she usually doesn't finish.

I guess my question is, what are good weight guidelines for her age? She is pretty small framed, so says a friend who is a vet student.

I don't think anyone could judge without seeing her. There should be meat over her ribs, but not so much that you have a hard time feeling them. You should be able to see a "waist" when she is viewed from above, as well as from the side.

Your veterinarian would be a good judge of things.
Here's a chart

I LOVE the way you describe what she's NOT! I know what you mean.....the "NEW" Siamese is different than long ago.

I have a tabby that is 9 months old and he is 13 pounds. The vet said to put him on a diet. She also asked me what food I am feeding. He is still getting kitten food. She said that is the problem that when he was neutered he should of been switched to adult food. The kitten food was making him over weight. She told me when a kitten is fixed, they need to be switched to adult food. I switched a week ago, so only time will tell if he looses weight. He does get lots of exercise.
