Fur discoloration

My two and a half year old cat Celeste has recently developed a small bit of fur discoloration right behind her right ear. She is a black cat with white patches, and the discoloration is a brownish-red color covering an area of roughly half an inch. Her natural color is black at the tips on her upper body with reddish-brown roots and black at the tips on her lower body with white roots. So if you brush her fur to the side on her upper body, you can see the same brownish color as the discolored spot (though it will only be at the roots), whereas brushing her fur to the side on her lower body will show the white roots.

I was thinking that perhaps the pigment on the roots of her fur had moved to the top, though I don't see how it could have happened. All in all, I know that she has that same reddish brown color on her fur, but it never showed on the entire hair like this.

I was worried that it might be a malnutrition issue, but I have no idea. Any help would be appriciated.

Any way you could post a photo?

If it is just the hair changing color I would not worry too much. Look at and feel the skin in the area- you'd be looking for redness, lumps, cuts, skin flakes, tiny scabs, scrapes, or anything else unusual on/in the skin.

I'll get a picture up in a bit, but at the moment there are no abnormalities in the actual skin, just the discoloration of the fur.

I forgot to mention that this is an exclusively indoor cat, if that may have anything to do with it. She also has yet to be spayed, but wasn't in heat at the time of this.
