Hello all!

So its a definite: my Ben has cat acne.

It used to be just little black specks, but one night I found him scratching his neck like crazy and I saw a completely fur-less area on his chin where a red bump was. He had cut it open from scratching, but it was def. a pimple.

Anyway, I switched cat food, as I read that it's usually a food allergy (I already have stainless steel bowls that I wash with soap daily) so hopefully this will clear it up.

I also bought some DETTOL antiseptic liquid and HYDROGEN PEROXIDE. Does anyone have any words of advice as to a cleaning regimine? What happens if he cleans his chin after I put the liquid on? Will he get sick?

Thanks to all of your help!

Allison & little Ben

You have to rinse it off. Anyway, cats can't clean their chin....that's the main reason they're prone to acne. Many threads here with tips if you search. Use "acne" as your keyword; the search engine doesn't do too well on multiple keywords.

Take some gauze, saturate with the peroxide and wipe the chin a bit vigorously, enough so you loosen the debris and open the pores. Do this everyday for a week. Chin will be good as new. Chin acne is mostly caused from dirt because the cat can't clean up his/her chin unless they have a buddy to do that for them!
