now they are telling me its hypertension

We took our kitty to see the cardiologist today and were told that it didn't appear he had an enlarged heart (earlier we were told he did), but that he had high blood pressure with a systolic of 300. 100 is normal! Any folks out there with this same problem? What did you do for it? Was there an underlying cause?

After reading your response I'm fuming. My husband actually took kitty to cardiologist and apparently the dr. didn't even mention the heart murmur. My husband did say the dr. seemed hurried and he was a bit dissapointed with the service, esp. since it cost $350 and he felt he didn't get any good answers. Kitty was prescribed Norvasec- 2.5mg and I was told to give hald a dose every 24 hours.
It's discouraging to hear all these different verdicts. It was the ER dr. that said the heart looked enlarged and heard the murmer, yet the cardiologist disagreed. We did have bloodwork done and the creatin was high, which makes me fear kidney failure. I'm going to read up on your links, and call both vets. Our reg. vet is a cat clinic only and I'm wondering if we are getting the best care possible.
Thanks so much for all the info, it is GREATLY appreciated!!!!!!!!
