Changing up food

Should I change up food every couple of years? My 3 cats have been eating California Natural Dry Chicke and Rice. They seem to do ok on the food. The only things that concern me is that they poop a ton and they're always licking themselves if not each other. I know cats lick a lot, but it's to the point where they smell like spit and have to get bathed every month or so.

I've never heard of a cat smelling of spit.
Have you had their teeth checked?
I don't see any reason to change food generally unless they have an intollerance to it. What are you considering a ton of poop? Seems I'm scooping constantly! Does it look normal?
As for grooming, cats usually do groom a lot. Are they losing fur? Do they seem itchy? If not it's probably just normal grooming.
All that said, if you want to change the food, there's no reason not to. Just make sure you do it gradually over several days. Switching too quickly can upset some cats tummies.
