Widget and Jinx and a Leo Memorial

Our first cat, Widget. We got her the day after my dog of 14 years, Nala, passed away last year. We went to the shelter and she was in the first room we went to and she immediately ran up to me, rubbed on my leg, and let me pick her up and rub her belly. When I looked at her card to see how old she was (I was not ready to lose another pet so soon) the first thing I saw was that the shelter had named her Nala, so that sealed her fate that she'd be coming home with us. The morning after we got her, she sat on my lap and purred for hours, like she knew I needed to be comforted after losing my dog. It's nice to know I at least still have her to help me get over losing baby Leo. She is a sweet girl who loves being around people and has a purr that can be heard a mile away when she's happy.

It's hard finding a picture of her without Leo in it. She was a mama to him and he loved her so much.

A few months after getting Widget, my husband convinced me she needed a friend, so that's when Jinx and Leo came home. Leo was supposed to be my little kitten, my birthday present to myself. But I couldn't justify bringing a kitten home from the shelter without getting another cat that wouldn't get adopted as easily. When I saw Jinx in the shelter, I sat down and he curled up in my lap and purred. But when I brought him home, Widget didn't like him. So Jinx became my kitty and Leo was Widget's friend. He had been turned into the shelter by his previous owners so he is always desperate for attention and he rarely purred after we got him home. When he did purr, it was barely audible. We've had him for nine months, and now all I have to do is make eye or say his name and he'll start purring, and when he does, he gives it all he's got.

Nine months ago, when we brought Jinx home, we also brought home baby Leo, who was about two months old. Unfortunately, we lost baby Leo last night, most likely to FIP. I'll post a proper memorial to him as well, but I thought he deserved a picture here too.
This was taken the day after we brought him home (my birthday). He was just the cutest little thing.

Poor little guy.

The last time people tried to elimate free roaming cats it resulted in The Black Plague.
