My quilting friend's son and new daughter-in-law just got their Air Force orders to be stationed in England. They checked into taking their kitten (he's about 7-8mo old
) and had the $650 airfare set aside and all his health paperwork in order, THEN, they were de-railed with the 6mo quarantine, charged daily. It was going to wind up costing over $2k and this is a newly married couple, they just don't have that much money to spend on pets, yet.
I had gone over to visit (my friend's husband has cancer in his lungs, liver and bones
) and while everyone was visiting and talking about the costs and how attached this girl was to her cat ... I could see that it would be a financial hardship on them, so I offered to give their kitty a home with me. I told her I could either long-term foster him until they could have him with them or she could just give him to me outright. I was impressed that everyone left the decision up to her, without trying to pressure her either way, and after two days she called me and asked if I would take him to give him a home and of course I agreed.
They came over tonight, because I wanted her to see our home and our cats. I felt it would be important for her to *know* he was in a great home.
They brought him with them! So tonight, was the night I got a Meezer!
He was in the carrier, laying down and relaxed while 6 of our 8 came up to 'greet' him and he only growled a few times, asking for a bit more space. I had them help me carry in the dog-crate from the back patio and we set it up in the living room. I've got a sheet and towel hung for privacy and he is relaxed and just checking things out.
He is neutered, vaccinated and micro-chipped. Unfortunately
he is also de-clawed, so I get to learn about that.
He'll need a name change, as he's named after an Air Force General. I am sort of leaning towards "Sky" because of his blue eyes.
