Scamper came to us as a wee little kitten of a (mostly) unknown age. She was found by some kind strangers in a box on the highway with her littermates. They couldn't keep the kittens, so they decided to sit outside of Safeway and try to find people who would be willing to take them. My mom ended up being one of them.
We don't know exactly when she was born (only that it was sometime in the late spring), so I decided to celebrate her birthday today, on Mother's Day. Fitting for such a sweet, motherly cat.
Lucky, her late big sister, was not too happy about it at first, not being much of a cat.. well, cat. But Scamper - named for the way that she scampered about my room once she was brought home - eventually fit right in.
Aside from Lucky, who was my childhood pet, she has been through the most with us. 10 years of ups and downs (mostly downs), but she is still here with us. Happy and healthy, finally making it into the double-digits.
Happy birthday my sweet little Bear. Thank you for all of the love you have given us over this past decade, and I'm sorry we've never really had the money or resources to give you the posh life that you deserve. You've been such a trooper, and I'm so happy that I was finally able to at least switch you to wet food last year, and that you've found so much happiness in your new siblings, Robin and Ammy.
I don't know what the future holds, but I try to remain optimistic, and I hope that you will live a long, healthy life, soon to be filled with all of the treats and toys we could never afford before.
Here's to another decade with this wonderful little bundle of fluff in my life.
Happy birthday, Scamper.
