Introducing Ishka!

We've been fostering kitties for awhile now, since we bought our house in June. We recently picked up a foster from our rescue coordinator who had such a funny little face that we burst out laughing when we saw her. She's got half a tail. A smushy face. She's obese. She's got stubby little munchkin legs.

And when her name came on the list that it was her weekend to go to an adoption event, I almost burst out sobbing at work because I didn't want to lose her. She's a total lap cat and loves to snuggle and she'll take infinite stroking so enthusiastically.

So she stayed.

She's now known as Ishka and she has a body type similar to a 'pixie bob' but with a much smoother coat. We've got a cat scale on loan from the rescue and are on a slow, steady campaign to get the excess weight off her so she can live a long, healthy life with us. (She weighs just shy of 9 lbs but apparently she should only weigh around 6.)

I don't think I could ever successfully foster cats.... I'd be more than the crazy cat lady, they'd have to lock me up! That one's a cutie.

She's not easy to photograph because she goes absolutely nuts for petting if she's not actively bathing.

She's adorable! I don't think I'd be able to let her go either! I'm considering fostering, as our shelter desperately needs foster homes, especially for their cats with upper respiratory infections, and since Tybalt had an upper respiratory infection when he came into the shelter, I could foster with him. I know he would LOVE to have a fellow kitten to play with, and it would be a great way to provide him that until my car is paid off and I can afford to feed and care for two cats plus a dog, but I also know how hard it would be to let the cat go when it's time for it to be adopted. I'm still seriously considering it though.

Honestly, most of the time we're incredibly happy to see them go. We've had a couple dozen cats through our home in the past six months and of them, there have only been two I was sad to see go--one was Ishka, obviously, but we also had a young black cat who had a neck abscess while he was with us that we fell in love with. He went off to another home, though. We were sad to see him go but happy he's home now.

Here's a better picture of her. She's wearing a Tile (a thing for finding your keys) on her collar because the little demon likes to hide for a nap like no one else and we've spent so many hours searching for her when we're doing headcounts that we decided to put a button on her that would sing when we can't find her!
