Established in the 1830s by Irish Ulster and British emigrants, but it was named after industrious Orange Lawrence who arrived in 1844 from Connecticut who bought land, built mills, opened a general store and tavern, founded the first school and was postmaster. So strong was his influence that everyone agreed it appropriate that the village be named Orangeville.
