reflections on a cat (an exert from a book in progress)

I thought I'd share with you some writings of mine. There is a book that sits on my shelf, that is only opened and penned in when someone close to me leaves, never to be seen again, or dies and never leaves my heart. A book of warm memories, and all the love ive shared. I hope that one day, maybe when im no longer here, someone will take this book and have it published for all the cat lovers out there.

My life has been blessed in a very special way. Even tho i sit here alone night after night thier is a small furry body sat next to me gently purring. Every now and again a little soft paw will reach out and settle on my arm, and a gentle, loving face will gaze at me with half shuttered jade green eyes. A colour, that for me, cannot be matched by any gem stone in the world. Sometimes she will seek stronger affection and lick my arm to let me know she is there. A scent, that even tho, isnt as relaxing as lavendar, as soothing as juniper or as revitalising as fresh citrus, nevertheless reminds me of home. A warm bed and loving little girl who will always be by my side, who will always have my back.

Ive seen many a faithful companion pass through this big old house. Each and everyone special and beautiful in thier own different way. Some found better, loving homes. Some sadly i have laid to rest, ones who have left a gaping wound in my heart that shall never be filled.

Whitey

I love my dear Whitey,
Tho as deaf as a post,
Almost blind as a bat,
Sitting on her fleece mat.

Her color is off-snow,
Though her furs a bit rough,
Shes a dignified old lady,
With a mouth full of fluff!

A little bit rickety,
With eyes of deepest gold,
To the comfort of home,
Her heart has been sold,

Shes gone a bit senile,
And now dribbles with pleasure,
When i stroke that old head,
My loving companion forever.

RIP WHITEY 1989 - 2009

This is so touching. I'm left crying as I think of all feline souls who have left their pawprints on my heart through the years.

cats leave paw-prints on your heart
It takes a cat to turn a house from a cold building into a warm home.
Cats teach us it's the simplest things that really matter
