Cat Sense Book Review

I am always looking for more information on domestic cats as well and enjoy books based on scientific studies. I found this new book available and looked up a review listed in another of my science newsletters.

BOOK REVIEW: Cat Sense: How the New Feline Science Can Make You a Better Friend to Your Pet by John Bradshaw | Science News

Thanks for the link - I like science-based books about cats, but one part of the review sticks out to me:

Quote:
Bradshaw, who lives in England, draws overwhelmingly on British examples and research, making the book slightly less relevant for an American audience.
I'm not sure what this means, exactly - I wonder in what way British-based studies and examples differ so that they're not as relevant to cats in the rest of the world?

One thing that pops into my mind is the indoor/outdoor debate. It seems to be way more acceptable and encouraged over the pond to let cats be indoor/outdoor. They don't seem to have quite as many dangers out there as we do.

You are very right, MowMow! Much different outlook on cat welfare, yet light years ahead of the USA on the humane management of feral colonies. I have read a lot of info from the UK on domestic cats; they seem to really embrace the issue of domestic cats and their management: and really, the studies and the study conclusions are easily adaptable to our cat culture here in the USA. I am looking forward to getting the book within the next few months and reading it.
