What am I getting myself into-very excited but scared

Growing up my dream was to be a Vet. I started school after high school and started taking pre-vet med classes. Well life threw me a few curve balls and I didn't continue with college. I had at one time started taking classes to be a vet tech but that fell through for me as well. I had some bad things going on in my life at that time and didn't continue. Well here we are 12 years later. I am married and have 2 little kids and a busy life. I had always wanted to continue school to be a vet tech but there were no schools in my area. I would have to drive about an hour and a half to get to one.

Well I was at the Vet office yesterday picking up my cat when I struck up a conversation with one of the girls. Turns out she is in school to be a vet tech.....at the local Tech school. It is a new program for them. I was so excited. I went home and last night I filled out an application and today sent the forms for my transcripts. I called today and have an appointment for a placement test and an appointment for an info session and one on one with an advisor.

I am so excited right now I could cry. But on the other hand I am scared to death. I had a small anxiety attack this afternoon. I am going through all sorts of emotions. I am excited, scared, I feel guilty that I am going to be taking time from my family. My dad and stepmom are very happy for me and my DH is being very supportive but we have to be able to fit this into our schedule. We have yet to tell the in-laws. I am kind of afraid of what they may say. I work for them. I am planning on taking it slow. Doing online courses when I can for the prerequisite courses. From what I understand some of the core classes have a 2-3 year waiting list which isn't a problem for me.

I am really hoping this works out. This has been my dream for so long I almost can't believe its happening.

This is me right now:

Woot! Sounds like an exhilarating time in your life! Don't let anyone knock you down, just keep standing firm. You'll get there!

That's exciting! I know exactly what you mean about bigger changes being scary. I'm going through something like that right now myself. I think you just have to identify the scary thoughts as the fear talking, and that overall you can do it.

I really admire vet techs. They're working hard on animals who don't want to be worked hard on, and the owners are anxious about the whole thing. Yet, they manage to remain upbeat and friendly and in control of things. They're an impressive group, at least in my exposure to them.

That's wonderful, Vanessa! I am so glad you're going to continue your education. As Allie said, you mustn't give up your dreams. This is within reason, and something you really want. Go for it!

Thank you everyone! It feels good seeing all of your positive replys. I hope my kids see it this way too. My DD started crying last night when she found out. She has cousins and her Aunt are in college and they all live on campus and had to "move away" for school. Poor thing thought I was also going to have to move away to go to school but my DH explained it was only 5mins from home and she didn't have to worry. She melted my heart.
