Pretty bird photo op!

This poor little momma baltimore oriol almost committed birdie suicide on the patio! She was alright, and flew away once she stopped seeing stars. I think she's just beautiful!

BTW......does anyone know if there's anything I can do to make the birds aware of the patio door windows? Something that isn't an eye sore, and something that won't block the view to terribly bad? I think they see the trees from the woods shadowed in the windows, and think they can fly into them.

Lovely pictures, and lovely bird. Poor gal.

You could try sticking up some decals of hawks/falcons/owls on the outside of the windows. I've heard that helps as well as hanging things like plants or windchimes around and infront of the windows.

Also have heard that adding an awning to the area helps as it changes the reflection on the windows.

Wild Birds Unlimited (storefronts or online) sells window decals - maybe even temporary ones - that break up the reflections on the window glass which cause birds to get confused. Somewhere I saw new hologram style ones, that are almost invisible to us, but birds see them. The National Audubon Society might also be a place to look - they have a website and I am pretty sure you could find links to places with bird supplies...

I'm so glad she didn't suffer permanent damage! I used to make window decals from kits called Gallery Glass. It's made by Plaid Enterprises. It looks very much like stained glass. I have loads of kits, and just need to get the urge to make more again. It's very rewarding, fun, and effective. It adheres to the window by just touching.

Decals you can buy would be attractive also.
