the Belmont

I can barely stand the wait.
the Post Postion Draw is this morning.....first time in a while I am excited about a Triple Crown being on the line.

Love Big Brown, hope he can pull it out.

If he does lose, it better be to Casino Drive. It would be an awesome feat for one mare to produce three Blemont winners in a row(Jazil in 06, Rags to Riches in 07, and then Casino Drive this year). Three siblings in three years, that's just crazy.

Good luck to Big Brown

and good luck to Casino Drive

They are both gorgeous horses. I hope Big Brown wins.

Three winning foals? That is impressive!

I have to cheer Big Brown on, though. I want to see a Triple Crown Winner!

Yes, generally when a race mare is retired to be a broodmare, that does mean she is expected to foal each year.

In most disiplines(not just racing) a broodmare is bred every year if that is her purpose, unless the pregnancy was rough on her and she was too weak to carry another foal.

I don't know what happened. I hope Big Brown has no physical problem. His jockey said towards the end of the race that "he had no horse." So he slowed him down. I would imagine the terrible heat had an effect on all of the horses.

Well, he's a noble animal, regardless.

I'm glad that the jockey pulled him up and didn't try to push him. I hope that he is ok.

Some days you've got it, some days you don't. I know how widely my horse's attitude varies from day to day, and she isn't a moody adolescent. It's hard to say.

Given BB's problems with his hooves, I'm just happy he didn't break down. Would be nice to see him race again, snap out of his funk. Given this performance, I wonder what Dutrow will do.

I cried. When I saw that he just didn't have it in him to push ahead, I started crying. Silly, I know, but I was very excited about a Triple Crown win. He seemed so calm and 'ready'. I was sure he'd do it.
Still, I'm very glad Kent pulled him up so he didn't expend useless energy when it was obvious he wouldn't place. Big kudos to him for thinking of the horse.

I only watched about 1/2 hour of the pre-race show (I always love how the network has to work to turn a 2.5-minute race into a 2-hour TV event). I have to admit -- watching how inevitable everyone was treating a Big Brown win, I figured he wasn't going to be able to pull it off. Karma does not like to be mocked.

I definitely hope he's OK, that it was just him thinking, "It's hot, I'm tired, my foot is bugging me, I'm not up for this today" rather than something more serious.

I feel rather sorry for Da'tara and everyone connected with him, news-wise. No one paid the least bit of attention to him even after he won -- it was still all about Big Brown. And leading for the entire race for a mile and a half is impressive even if it was a relatively slow Belmont Stakes.
