I'm such a klutz!!!!

This morning, as we were leaving for work, I stepped up to get into my husband's truck, my ankle gave out on me, it twisted outward and down I went. Luckily, we were headed for the Dr.'s office so I could get my allergy shot. I limped into the office, got a few painful X-rays, got my foot wrapped and got sent home with ankle sprain and fifth metatarsal fracture of my right foot. Now I sit with my pain meds and anti-inflammatory meds, waiting to hear from the orthopedic department to find out when my foot gets casted. My poor foot and ankle are swollen and bruised loaded up with ice packs. I can't move around a whole lot until I get my crutches, but my neighbors had a walker, which I have borrowed. Arghhhh!!!

... ok, now I got that out of my system, I feel much, much better!

Thanks for listening!

Ugh. Well, I guess the only good thing is that you were on your way to the Dr office when it happened... It is never fun to break a bone. I've had one (jawbone) done surgically, never accidentally. I cannot imagine the discomfort/pain and I hope you feel better soon!

I did that a couple of years ago. A Jones fracture that broke the bone in two pieces. No weight-bearing for three weeks under threat of surgery to repair it if became dislocated.
The walking cast made my lower back hurt until I got used to the uneven hips - and then again when the cast came off.

And no probems since then either.

Thanks everyone! I'm staying off of my foot (as much as my patience will allow) and just moving around on crutches. The pain meds help and I know the anti-inflammatory meds will help in the long run. My son (the EMT) recognized it as a Jones fracture as soon as I explained it to him. I know it will heal in time, it's just a pain getting used to not being as ambulatory as I'd like. Thanks again!

Such a klutz - update!!

Ugh. I got a call from my doc saying the radiologist read my films and I have two fractures, both of the fifth metatarsal of the right foot. Groan!!!! I've been referred to an orthopedic specialist not too far from me, and will hear from them first thing next week, to schedule an appointment to get my foot put in a cast. This is the one thing I was trying to avoid. And I thought I was doing so good, using my crutches, keeping my foot wrapped and elevated, etc. I guess it could have been a whole lot worse than just a couple of fractures, right???

Ok, I'm officially off my soapbox. Thanks for listening!

I feel for you, Terri. That's gotta hurt!

I broke my toe last fall just a few weeks after starting my teaching job, and I couldn't stay off it. I've had two babies and can tolerate alot of pain, but boy, was it was painful!

Rest up and take it easy. I hope your husband is waiting on you hand and foot (sorry, bad pun )
