Crazy Nature- bee swarm over my house

Well we were filling our kids swimming pool this afternoon and all of a sudden I heard this really loud buzzing sound. At first I thought it was an approaching plane but when I looked up I saw a "cloud" of insects. At first I was a bit confused but when I realized that they were bees I yelled to my DH to get the kids in the house. Before he even had a chance the swarm floated away over our roof. They were flying pretty high.

That is the first time in my life I have ever seen anything like that. It was kind of scary but pretty awesome at the same time. The sound was what got me the most. It was very loud. I wonder what was happening or where they were going.

Any bee keepers or bug people here that may know about what I saw?

Vanessa

I imagine they were swarming with a new queen. I heard a news story about a wreck involving bee hives, but that's probably a coincidence. I heard only snippets of the story. Whatever it was, I have never seen such a thing!

Same with me. They stayed the night then were gone.

Erm....I....uh....no.

If that many bees came to my house, they could have it.

That must have been really neat, but scary at the same time.

The only time I've seen bees swarm is when I was helping a friend repair an AM transmitter out in the boonies. He accidentally drove over a bumble bee nest and they swarmed out. They were loud and scary.
