NFL trade deals???

Something else that Ken told me he heard on TV this morning has me thinking. Please keep in mind I know nothing about official NFL trade deals and how they work. I'm just spinning scenarios in my head and don't mean to point out that I'm stupid.

Anyway, Ken heard that Jets QB Chad Pennington may be traded to the Vikings. The first thing I thought of was, could this be Favre's roundabout way of getting to Minnesota like he wanted in the first place or is this just a coincidence? I mean, doesn't it look quite fishy in a way? Is it possible for Pennington to end up in Minnesota only to be traded back to NY or some other team just so Brett goes where he wanted to?

bbuutttt... the terms of the trade are flexible contingent on how well Favre plays for the Jets. I wonder if he's suit up in Cleveland tonight, they play the Jets in the pre-season opener.

Umm...why would the Jets trade Pennington to the Vikes then trade him back again for Brett? Why wouldn't they just trade Brett to the Vikes directly? Unless GB managed to put some sort of clause about that, but I can't imagine the Jets agreeing to a restriction like that.

Pennington is no great quarterback, I can see why the Jets would want Brett even for just a year. But they need a lot more help than Brett can give them.

According to NFL.com, the Packers will receive a fourth-round draft pick in 2009. The selection would turn into a third-rounder if Favre plays in 50 percent of the plays this season, a second-rounder if he plays in 70 percent and the Jets make the playoffs, or a first-round pick if he plays in 80 percent and the Jets make it to the Super Bowl.
Pennington it expected to be cut today...what an odd trade deal.

one thing is for sure, Favre will play in a Jets uniform this year.

Assuming Brett has hard feelings for GB that deal is kind of a double edge sword for him...the better he does...the better GB makes out on the trade.

Interesting that the Jets have to make it to the playoffs for a 2nd round and the Superbowl for 1st round. Stranger things have happened but I just don't see either of those happening....GB will settle for a 3rd round pick.

See, I told you I'm stupid when it comes to the office stuff. All the legal mumbo-jumbo is just way over my head. I really do understand how the game of football works!

the way I take it, they have to cut Chad loose in order to be able to afford Brett under the salary cap. One day you're the starter, the next day you're out of a job. One thing I never liked about the NFL.

I don't really follow the Jets, but my father just mentioned that Chad has a bad shoulder. Lots of stuff against him...

Its funny how tonights game in Cleveland was pretty much meaningless until last night. Now it will probably get picked up and televised nationally.

Favre's first game as a Jet. woot.

Lucky you.

I know nothing about football...To be honest, the first time I saw him was his interview and I am like "who the heck is that?". I didn't realize he was in all those jeans commecials. Then when I was told it was Brette Farve, I'm like "ok, who?".
