Shocking and sad news...

My cousin's best friend (who also happened to work with Ken) died in his sleep last night; he was only 34.

The way I understand it, he had a pituitary tumor when he was about 6 years old and, as a result, has been on hormone supplementation the rest of his life. Apparently some of his doctors didn't think he'd live past his teens.

Apparently he slipped and fell while getting out of his truck last week and had been complaining of a backache since. An autopsy is being done tomorrow but what his parents are wondering is whether or not he had an abdominal aneurysm or something because apparently you can get backaches from that.

It's really strange for me to realize that someone my age has died. I've known this guy since high school but we weren't close or anything. I only knew him through my cousin but my cousin happened to be one of my closest friends while growing up.

That must be such a strange feeling. I think it hits really close to home when it's someone you went to school with or you knew when you were younger. Sorry for your loss ::hugs::

Even if the doctors didn't expect him to live a long life, it must be a real shock to you, Jo, and to everyone who knew him. God bless his familly and friends and rest his soul.

Re: Shocking and sad news...

It was a real shock. Honestly, I didn't learn until today that the doctors never expected him to live as long as he did. Like I said, I wasn't close with him but he was very close with one of my cousins, the cousin with whom I shared the title "kissin' cousins" when we were little. I'm only 7 months older than him and we spent so much time with each other growing up that I got to know all of his other friends.

They met through church when they were kids. My cousin and two other guys were such close buds growing up that my cousin couldn't decide which one to choose for best man at his wedding, so he left the decision to the luck of the draw; this guy who passed away won that draw.

I spoke with my cousin on the phone tonight who said that when he and these other two were in high school they made a promise to deliver eulogies at the other's funerals. Well, now that issue has actually come up so my cousin is getting together with the other friend to write the eulogy they didn't think would be needed so soon.

When a friend dies so young, it hits really hard, and especially makes you feel your mortality.
I am very sorry for your loss.
