Have you spent less on Christmas this year?

I dont think I've spent any less than other years - but then i tend not to spend a lot any year.

Interesting article below discussing being thrify verses spending to help the economy.

OK, I have always wondered, what exactly is chutney used for? Doesn't sound like it would be good on toast.

Anyhow, my family has spent less. My boys are still getting one very nice gift each, but none of the fun little extras this year. My version of chutney is carmels. I made them with the same recipe my grandmother used when she mailed them in a Christmas care package to my dad when he was over seas during WWII. Each person coming to our house will get a small container full of them.
All in all I think it will be a better Christmas this way. We just don't need all the extra junk.

Sue

So far we've spent less, for 2 reasons:
1. We have a car payment now, which we haven't had in several years.
2. We haven't finished our shopping yet : /

Re: Have you spent less on Christmas this year?

We're giving more homemade gifts this year. Hubby is not working right now so we're watching our pennies. I found the cutest coffee table for my mom at a garage sale this summer ($10) and refinished it for her Christmas present. I also make a ton of different cookies and goodies to give out to friends.

Frankly, as long as I have my family, pets and friends around me, it's going to be a wonderful Christmas. I am truly blessed.

Merry Christmas everyone!

Yea we spent less because we only bought presents for eachother instead of spending $100 per family member. I think the most I spent on some one that wasnt my husband was $21.

Re: Have you spent less on Christmas this year?

We've spent less.

My family agreed years ago to give just to our own nuclear families except we do give gifts to our parents.

My kid's getting a very nice gift. DH and I agreed on just one gift each (socks for him that I got with my $10 coupon at Bob's and he's giving me body spray that I hoarded from Bath and Body Works when it was on sale). Mostly we've saved because my work team and I agreed not to exchange gifts any longer (for which we were all grateful). Baked some stuff for them instead.

Re: Have you spent less on Christmas this year?

We've spent way less - just gifts for Jamie and his two cousins (and Gracie ). Hubby is only one month into his new job, and we have some bills to finish off before we can start breathing freely again....!

It's not all a loss, however. Jamie's pottery is turning out so well at school that my parents are totally excited to be receiving his handiwork for Christmas! I am trying to encourage him, I think by the time he is a senior in high school both his ceramics and his photography will be something he can make money on. Pleases me no end to see the artist in him, since in all other ways he is a totally techie/scientist, just like his dad. Yea! There's a little of his mom in him after all!
