January Chocolate Challenge

"Eating Healthy" is such a broad statement and so hard to stick to for me...it entails a drastic change, which usually is impossible, leads to failure and major disappointment.

Who is up to the challenge?

Chocolate is off limits except for on Saturdays, for the month of January.
If you crave chocolate through out the week, you may have it in the form of warm or cold chocolate milk.

This will make you think twice about blizzards, milk shakes, candy at a co-workers desk, or dessert when you are already stuffed!

**Sometimes, little changes, one at a time, is all it takes to establish a healthy routine.**

You may learn to appreciate chocolate isn't a necessity, but is a nice treat once a week.
You'll be amazed at how much chocolate you used to consume if you stick to this January Chocolate Challenge.

If you stick to the challenge this month, you might realize that small change is possible and will make the next healthy change not seem so hard to reach.

So, who will join me in this challenge? No weight check-ins involved, no money to pay if you mess up, just the satisfaction knowing that if you stick to the challenge, you are one step closer to gaining control over your desired healthy life style!

....Stay tuned for next month's challenge....Forget-The-French-Fries-February!!

Re: January Chocolate Challenge

Yup, anytime you get the craving, you can only satisfy it with chocolate milk. Unless, it's Saturday of course!

Re: January Chocolate Challenge

I already eat healthy, and happily enjoy the occasional chocolate,
as long as it's 70% cocoa which is lower in fat and sugar than milk.
milk chocolate is 15-25% cocoa, with the balance as fat and sugars.
"dark" chocolate does NOT mean it's high in cocoa, so look for >55%

you'd be better off consuming the RIGHT chocolate, not avoiding it.
Enjoy 1oz of 70% chocolate per day to maintain a heart healthy diet.

under $2 per 3.5oz bar and delicious;

because cocoa prices continue to rise,
looking for cocoa% is critical, as more
chocolate makers keep their prices down,
by filling your candy with MORE fat and sugar,
to replace the recently more expensive cocoa.

I'll PM you my address. There's no reason you should have to choke these down in that little time.

No, don't thank me, that's just who I am. I'm a giver (okay, in this case, a taker).

Re: January Chocolate Challenge

Great idea, I'm in too!

Actually, since I'm seriously addicted to chocolate, I've given it up entirely from time to time. No milkshakes, candy, substitutes of any kind, and no 'cheat' days. It sucks for the first week, and the cravings are tolerable the second week, and if I make it to the two week mark I'm golden. No cravings, no temptation if people around me are having chocolate. One year I gave up chocolate from New Year's to Easter! The only problem is that once I have any chocolate again, I go completely nuts and gorge myself on it. But if you're looking to lose weight, giving up chocolate is a really good start, since it tends to make you rethink everything you're eating and make better choices!

Re: January Chocolate Challenge

Oh yay! I'm tickled people are joining me in this!

I admit, I was gorging in a dark chocolate candy bar as I wrote the post. But hey, it's not January yet!!

I give up chocolate for Lent each year and I agree with the above poster...the first week is tough but it just gets easier and soon enough, it's a lifestyle change and it just feels right to not eat it!
