Ever been to a Chuck E. Cheese's?

On Easter Sunday our family plus my Mom are hopping in the car after church and going to Minneapolis for a few days. It's about a 9-hour drive from here so I want to stop about halfway (Fargo) to have a bite to eat and let the kids get out and stretch their legs so they don't get too cranky.

There's a huge play facility inside the big shopping mall in Fargo but they're closed on Easter. I was talking to our daycare lady who said there is a Chuck E. Cheese's in Fargo. Of course, their slogan is "where a kid can be a kid!" so I was wondering if anyone knows if they have good things for the toddler age group (mine are 4) to do, and not just the older kids.

I'm sure there's a bin of balls for the little one to jump around in, and there is a musical show featuriing animated creatures. Of course there's pizza! There are other things, but I don't want to mix us Chuck E. Cheese with another pizza place with games.

Thanks, Jeanie. I should have waited to post this thread. I just thought to call the store in Fargo and told her I have two 4-year-olds and want to know what they have for them. It sounds like there are tons of things to do! I'll have to put C.E.C. down on our itinerary for the road trip.

Re: Ever been to a Chuck E. Cheese's?

I had a High School friend who worked at CEC, he worked in the kitchens, but would also wear the CEC costume and go out to greet and mingle with the children. He said it was funny to watch their faces, they either loved him or were scared of him. He learned to move slow and wave his hands a lot to not startle the children and appear friendlier and approachable. He also did a lot of head-pats, photo-opportunities with the kids and would kneel down to give hugs, but this was in the 80's and I'm not sure if hugs are "allowed" now?

Check out Games & Rides along with Entertainment under "The Experience" to see what types of things they offer for kids to do. Be aware, most of these places are a MAD HOUSE where the parents just let their kids run WILD with little/no supervision!
Also: I am sure CEC does their best to keep the place clean, but kids being kids, they are going to encounter some germs...especially at a place that attracts so many children.

Thanks, Heidi. Before I posted this thread I checked out the CEC website. It isn't set up very well. I clicked on the games section but didn't get much. There was some stuff written but I wanted to "see" pictures of what they have.

Re: Ever been to a Chuck E. Cheese's?

There's one near me that I drive by at least once a week. When my kids were small, I had to convince them that CEC was "only for parties" It is too overwhelming in there for me -- all the noise, light flashing, kids running... The ones I've been to usually have the stuff for smaller kids separated from the arcade for older kids. They have a ball pit, small rides, games, tunnels and slides. Plus kids can earn tickets to be turned in for prizes, most of which are nothing special but they do appeal to kids.

Just be aware that the tunnels are up on the ceiling -- it kind of freaked me out the first time my daughter went up there and I couldn't see where she was She was about 3 at the time. I was really, really hoping I would not have to climb up after her!

No question, your kids will think they're in kid heaven.
