Baby nephew is having issues breathing

This week, I got a call from my brother about my baby nephew turning blue and not breathing. My brother and sister-in-law rushed him to the hospital and there, they did some tests. THe doctors seem to think that his trachea's cartilage has a very thin layer instead of a thick one. They believe that he was born with this For a year now, Caleb has been on some steroids for a health issue and the doctors also think that the steroids decreased his growth in that area as well as his bones. My brother ran him to a children's hospital to do more tests and monitor him. Caleb is at more of a risk in not breathing at bedtime.

Caleb, is a happy playful baby boy, but needs prayers

Here is a picture of his brother Seth at 2yrs and Caleb at 1yr.

Oh, my! What adorable little boys! I hope the doctors can help Caleb and that he's doing better soon.

Both the boys were entered into the Baby GAP contest and they won....My sister-in-law is debating on letting the GAP people have the "rights" to do whatever... Ex: cut hair Caleb has curls now.

Bless that baby boy. What a terrible worry this is for all of you. I am praying that the doctors can find a permanent remedy for this baby.

Re: Baby nephew is having issues breathing

Both of the boys are miracle babies because my sister-in-law, Sheree has had a pace maker most of her life and the docs told her that she couldn't have kids...or if she wanted to try, to try before her 21st birthday! So, she had Seth and he is a healthy boy. Long story but Sheree has to get a new style pace marker on April 8. This will only last for the next 5 years and then she will have to look at the option of a heart transplant, that as well lasts up to 5 years!

Re: Baby nephew is having issues breathing

Any more news? It's so hard to handle news like this with a baby, but it's also amazing how things always seem to work out. Family and friends come to help, children recover surprisingly fast, and before you know it things that seemed like the end of the world are no longer a big deal.

Speaking from experience, I can assure you that the best thing you can do is simply offer your time. Offer to visit Caleb at the hospital so that his parents don't feel like they have to be there all the time. Offer to go to their house and help out when he's back home, since he will probably come home with many medications, maybe on oxygen, and definitely on a different schedule. Parents with sick children are constantly exhausted and need all the help you can give them.

I will keep Caleb in my thoughts and prayers, and please keep us updated.
