DEAD serious.

Blueray uses a totally different laser than normal DVD. It needs a finer focus than a regular DVD. It would be like trying to play a normal DVD in a CD player. As a general rule, the newer generation media WILL NOT play in an older generation player but a newer generation player most likely WILL play an older generation media. After all, you cannot read your DVDR discs in a CDR drive...but you can read a CD in a DVDR drive.

The PS3 is a blueray player and it uses the blueray laser for its games. That first link you gave Maria is for a normal DVD disc in an HD-DVD (a former blueray format competitor) player. That is the case of the older media playing in the newer player. The second link again is for newer players playing older discs. The question bluemilk asked is the inverse. Will a newer blueray disc play in an older regular DVD player? And the answer Maria is simply no. Let me put it this way and I apologize if I seem a bit...well...patronizing to you. But can you play PS2 games in your PS3? Most of them, yes. But can you play PS3 games on a PS2 player? Nope. He is asking if it is possible to do the equivalent of playing a PS3 game on a PS2 player.

Hope this helps, Maria.

Hope the shop has a good returns policy. I've been shafted by that in the past.

As long as the movie is still sealed, I do not see a problem, Hugh. Of course, not all retailers are the same.

Yeah no kidding.
My in law happens to love Walmart (why??who knows!), he bought a computer on black Friday, he thought he had 30 days to return it if it was defective.
on day 24 we went to his house to hook it up and realized the CPU fan wasn't working, we took it to walmart and the manager couldn't have been nastier, she wouldn't give him the money back, credit in the store or get a comparable machine!! She said their policy is 7 days for electronics, they have this HUGE sign that says 30 days return policy and the very bottom in VERY small print it says " 7 days for electronics"
We ended up buying a CPU fan and replaced it ourselves..
I HATE WALMART!!!
