Last combat troops leave Iraq

Regardless of what your feelings are about the whole Iraq war thing it is such a good thing that the last combat troops have left Iraq. 50,000 troops will still be there, but at least they will be in support positions.

Thank you to all of those who served over there, and to the families left behind to try to keep things together.

If it weren't for the men and women who serve for our country we would not be where we are today. Thank you for keeping us safe!

That has to be the oddest comment I've read in a while. You live in Chicago, not Iraq. How can you say you'll sleep soundly in your bed? The US army weren't defending your family. They were "defending" Iraqis. Although they occasionally did swap sides and shoot out troops instead.

But anyhow, great to see that they're finally leaving.

I'm sorry, did I say that I will sleep soundly in my bed? No I did not.

My comment reflects my support of men and women who voluntarily choose to enlist in an organization that exists to protect the country they serve. Whatever they were doing in Iraq - and everywhere else for that matter - they do not have a choice in. They do what they are told. However, as an American I am very proud of these men and women, many of whom are my family and friends. That is what my comment is about.

I wonder if our troops are coming home soon as well. I certainly hope so.

Well now the Americans have left, I hope we'll follow very soon. Just as soon as the job is done.

Sorry SC, the fact that the US and UK invaded Iraq made us less safe, not more safe. Well the UK anyway. As demonstrated in July 05.

Everyone, I think the point of this thread is just to congratulate the men and women out in the battlefield and that they're coming home safely. Let's just leave it at that. Whether you agree with what they did or didn't do and the purpose they served or didn't serve, save that for another day.
