Secretariat!

I can't wait to see the movie about this amazing horse!

Quote:
Having won two legs of the Triple Crown, Secretariat was declared a Super Horse, and his picture adorned the covers of Time, Newsweek, and Sports Illustrated. In the 1973 Belmont Stakes Secretariat amazed the nation, winning by over 31 lengths in the new world record time of 2:24 for the mile and a half. With his Belmont win, Secretariat became the ninth winner of the American Triple Crown, the first since Citation in 1948.
Secretariat: 1973 Triple Crown Winner

I saw Secretariat win the Triple crown, and he was absolutely amazing in the Belmont Stakes. It was almost unbelievable! I grew up knowing only one horse by his record, and that was the great Citation. It looked as if his wins would not be duplicated, and now, although it's exciting to look for a Triple Crown winner, part of me hopes Secretariat's record will stand. What a horse!

I would love to see it in the theater, but I know if they show footage of his 31 length victory at the Belmont .... I will bawl my eyes out! I bawl every time I see the video footage and my throat gets tight when I see the still pictures.
I may see it in the theater but I know for certain that I will purchase the DVD.
I think they cast the people characters very well (I love Diane Lane) and it appears it will be a fabulous movie about the people behind Secretariat; from his coin-toss beginnings to the people so assured of his racing ability, this is going to be one heck of a story! I recall the jockey (Ron Turcotte) describing how Secretariat was 'bumped' by the challenging colt in the backstretch of the Belmont and Big Red got 'mad', took the bit in his teeth and RAN. This horse also *accelerated* in each quarter mile of the 1 and 1/4mi Derby. What heart he had! Literally. After his death, his heart was discovered to be more than twice the size of average and this could have been the 'secret ingredient' that allowed him to win so tremendously and with such power and speed.
I love this horse for his accomplishments. He epitomizes everything regarding "try" leading to "success".
