I have no voice

I woke up today, and I have no voice.

I'm just getting over that nasty cold/flu thing I had and it has royally gummed up my vocal cords. I can barely get anything out other than a squeak.

This is the worse I've ever lost my voice. Before, I've had vocal cords so sore that I didn't want to talk or a voice that was really rashy and rattly, but I've always been able to force myself to talk if I needed to.

I tried gargling salt water, didn't help much.
I've tried chloraseptic Lozenges, didn't help at all.
Hot tea has helped some (I may be able to make my telecon call in a hour) but, again, not much.

Does anyone know of anything that can help or is this something that is best cured by time?

Thanks,

Oop! Then nevermind my suggestion, too.

I think at this point, you're supposed to rest your voice, not even try to speak or you'll just make it worse.

What Marie said. Try not to talk. Be careful about clearing your throat alot- use some mucinex if you're stuffy.

Although a shot of Jack Daniels bourbon in a hot cup of tea would probably feel pretty good on your throat!

I'm thinking its one of those things that just takes time to heal. Good luck and feel better soon.

I think my company wouldn't be happy if I did that at work. I think I'll have to wait until later on tonight

Would rum or whiskey work? I don't have any burbon. I could buy some though.

I think part of my problem is I'm coughing a good bit and that is probably making my vocal chords ragged.

Eventually it'll heal, but will take longer if you start talking before your vocal chords have healed.

Alcohol isn't the answer to everything, but it's always good if you can't think of anything else.
