Great idea indeed, although Muffs is just 10 lbs and Abby is only 7.5lbs, so it wouldn't likely help for them. It will be really great if/when they combine the microchip technology with GPS.

Hopefully one day they will fine tune this so it is available for small dogs and cats. Great idea! Thanks for posting.

Boy oh boy, that would sure be a great thing if they could implant it like a traditional microchip! I've heard many stories about someones beloved horses being stolen in the middle of the night, and what a great way to bring that pet home to someone! A thief wouldn't even know it was there!

They will need some new technology for that to work, current microchips are passive, they're like a read only memory chip they only respond when when they're queried by a scanner.
For this to work whatever is attached to the cat has to be broadcasting a signal that can be received.
Implanting a active transmitter in your pet might not be feasible or desirable,
But what's impossible today might be easily done next year or even next week.
It would certainly be cool to go to your computer log on to a website enter your pet's tracking code and get a map with the location of your pet, then zoom down to street level and see they're hiding under your neighbors porch.
